I have just read the first few paragraphs yet and I am enjoying it. I live in Spain (Madrid). So you get an idea why I am enjoying it ;).. And I can tell you that, I am enjoying how the Iberian Peninsula's story is being unfolded in your essay (wonderfully written). Everytime I go to Barcelona, and watch the Columbus statue with his fingers pointed to the sea, I get into the imaginary world, how 500 years ago that voyage through the seas defined the modern history and defined the European version of the world that we now live in. Hope to come back with more comments as I read through the rest of the essay.. once we enter the LLM world..

And lastly missed to mention.. definitely learnt a lot through the essay. A bit embarrassingly, had no idea that there was a line drawn by the Pope that led to Portugese chaps going east and Spaniards going west. Was always curious how come still the Portugese got Brazil and rest for Spain, but was always lazy to not have gone and searched for that.. so it was great to discover ;)
