Hello Jim O'Shaughnessy, I see you are quite busy with significant impact. ($) But you still find time to research tons and tons of quotes and links. And the ones you publish might be a small fraction of the ones you have checked out. How do you manage it? Do you have a team? OK, let's look at a few quotes:

✓Singer: "If you are pushing something away, you are inviting it to stay". I would say that everybody knows that. But they act like they don't. So how could you change the quote to that people will act upon it? Both plus and minus are in the same context. If you have blocked yourself only into that context, that is all you have to work with. There is nowhere else to go.

So where is the quote that suggests you can broaden your realm of possibilities?

✓"Seek not his footsteps, but what he was seeking". And what was that? You'll say wisdom, but that wisdom is that he was seeking himself. But if you are seeking Matsuo Basho, you are wrongheaded.

Seek yourself means YOU that are reading this. It is called authenticity, and nobody can teach you your own authenticity. You have to teach it to yourself, (step by step).

✓Murakami: We are all already thinking what everyone else is thinking. To suggest that there is some "original thought" that you will eventually have is a misdirection.

✓Syru: False cause is what runs the world. (Maybe there is no cause?) But I think you can monitor your own words with a great success. What are you telling yourself right now?

✓Markham: Daily Work will never be defined (by you) as "greatness". So greatness appears to be arising to the circumstances. The more challenging those circumstances, the greater you will feel yourself to be.

What are "Infinite Loops" anyway? Is it Hofstadter? Oh Boy? If you go off on infinite conjecture of almost infinite abstractions, some people believe you will get somewhere. But is that somewhere connected in any way to your life on earth?

Perhaps where there is too much food on the table, there is too much spare time to fill.

Avoiding theoretical language means privileging direct description, describing things as they are rather than describing them through theory. The abstract, is the attempt to makes certain observations apply to more and more world situations. It is the attempt to explain through generalizing, to jump to a theory. As for how to make a method out of “directness,” it means: ✓first, there must be content; ✓second, there must be a certain punch or impact; and ✓third, you have to write straightforwardly.

So first, you need a rich accumulation of things to say about a subject; it won’t do to make superficial, general statements. In your understanding, you need to explain how your subject matter is constituted from the inside out. There is a distinction between “explaining” and “explaining away.” “Explaining away” is self-contained; the goal is to settle something once and for all.

To see the world as it is, rather than through the lens of abstract principles, is not an effort to get along without ideals, aims, and aspirations. It is an effort to make these purposes real, to make them attainable in concrete terms in your life.
