that IS a nice thing about science fiction.
before sci-fi existed, people must have just been sitting around thinking "i wonder if there's a way that we might be able to carry out thought experiments in the future. oh well! no use experimenting with THESE thoughts. back to writing non-fiction and non-science-fiction only!"
